Whether you are interested in entirely redecorating your backyard living area or just wish to freshen up a little before spring and the summer months arrive , you may have fallen in love with teak outdoor furniture.  Two of the most desired qualities about owning teak furniture are ease of maintenance and its timeless, persistent beauty. While your teak furniture is almost certain to last for generations, you sooner or later will need to decide which look you like the best .  Some unabashedly prefer the unique, yet raw, patina gray color which is unique to teak wood.  Others wish their new furniture masterpiece to exude a more finished “stained” or “oiled” look .  Either can be acheived and everyone can be happy!

The patina gray that you may have seen appears rustic, and classic, with a slight antique appearance.  The patina gray will beautifully contrast with vibrant colors in a backyard , bright solids such as dark-green grass, or even a lively colored tile , and is sure to set your backyard, garden, deck, verandah, or boat apart from the rest.  Another great benefit to the sullen gray look is the absence of a need to maintain or keep up the appearance.  Simply left to age, the teak furniture will always produce enough of its marvelously rejuvenating teak oil that will protect it from the harsh wind and rain elements in any climate.  This is the best choice for someone with a lot of outdoor furniture where the upkeep would be labor intensive , or where the color of the gray furniture simply matches the palette of its surroundings.

A lavishly oiled teak piece on the other hand is seldom matched in its striking beauty and splendor.  Appearing as if the furniture is “glowing”, a finely oiled teak furniture piece can blend with any color palette or existing furniture piece to create a lavish, yet seductively relaxing living area. Commonly if the oiled or “stained” look is preferred then the teak oil is applied every year or two until the color reaches the desired tint.  This finish also serves as an extra barrier to the snow or rain elements but is not needed as the teak will naturally produce enough of this oil to preserve the wood for many years to come .

ultimately it comes down to preference, plain and simple, the dark, glowing look thats beautiful but requires a slight upkeep or a naturally unvarnished look that will remain that way forever.  Whatever the choice , you can remain confident that you have one of the highest quality pieces of outdoor furniture when it's made from teak that will last for many years to come that no doubt will be enjoyed by many family, friends and guests in the future!
